After a good long wait, they finally made my skin for me. It's been a few weeks now since I've gotten it and I'm loving it. It took awhile to apply well (maybe 30-45 minutes) but I took my time to get it right. Since it's big, instead of taking the whole thing off the paper before applying, I peeled some off starting with the right side which would be the front side edge. I peeled about 1/4 off (half the front) then I cut away the paper underneath so I could lay the rest of the paper on the reader. Then I carefully applied the first 1/4 and went from there, doing the same thing with the second 1/4. after getting the front on right, the back was a cinch. It pretty much just went on perfectly as I laid it on, but I was carefull to lay it on very flat to avoid any air bubbles, especially on the middle of the skin which is the edge of the reader where there are curves.
The cutout around the screen is slightly too big as has been pointed out already. I was careful to make the tiny bit of silver that shows equal around the screen and it looks fine, but I do wish they had made the skins go right to the black edge of the screen. I thought about trying to blow dry the skin a little first to shrink it to fit the screen perfectly, but I thought maybe I'd shrink it too much or damage it. If anyone else tries that, let me know!
The matte skin is definitely worth it for me. It's more glare-resistant, but I just like the way it looks better, especially for the design I picked. My sister's shiny skin is not bad though and makes her design "pop" and look very pretty (she has the Moon Fairy design for the nook classic). I think it'd be fine (for me anyway) glare-wise; it's more of an aesthetics thing for me.
Also, the skin is ultra-thin to me, and it in no way inhibits movement with the 950 lighted cover that I have.
FYI, if any of you look at the designs for the 950 and see "Mystery", I sort-of, kind-of helped design it (well, the layout of it)! That's the reason it took so long to receive mine. I requested the Mystery design, but looking at the way it was laid out on other devices (differently laid out on different devices), I knew that I'd prefer it laid out a certain way. They could accommodate me with a custom order, but to get the wallpaper, my request for the specific lay-out would have to be made into a site-design for the 950, not just a custom one for me. They reviewed it and decided to make my design requests into the general 950 layout for that design! So that was pretty awesome. Here are some pics of my skin:
If you're curious, I requested the man be completely on the front of the reader and not half on front half on back (the original has him in the middle of the entire enlarged design), the lamp be totally on the front and not partially on the back, the right-side screen border not just be the lamppost but also have some trees/bushes, and that the birds be on the back and the front left to right.
As I told them, that may be what they would've decided to do anyway, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask! If any decalgirl people are reading, thanks Aimee (sp?), Keith and the art department!
