You don't need to use the symbol menu, you use the top row of keys for the game. Q=1 W=2 E=3 and so on. it's also at the bottom of the game screen to remind you. A really good feature for this game is that you can input a game from a newspaper, which in my household is great because I have to fight with Hub over who gets to do it. So now no fighting I just input one from a paper onto a blank screen and then can solve it and we compete to see who can do it the quickest.

I do recommend the EA version, the one that I have, it is very user friendly.
