Kyoto used to be the ancient capital of Japan, and the Emperor's palace is a beautiful example of Japanese architecture. It's one drawback was that were weren't enough moats or high enough walls to really protect the Emperor so they installed an absolutely amazing intruder alarm system that still functions well today, to the delight of sightseers visiting.
