My current desktop computer is left on 24/7 and is now about eight years old. I changed the motherboard about four years ago, but that was less than $100 USD. I do have some extra fans mounted inside the cabinet to reduce heat, but other than the occasional attack from malware, I don't have problems with it. (touch wood) I've been doing this 24/7 with computers for the past two computers and only upgrade when there is some really great new hardware that I 'really must have.'

The only time we shut our machines down is for storms. And even then, Chris has his on a UPS. Mine is ..... hmmm. Well, I'd have to ask Chris, but I think it's four years old or so. He's upgraded my processor since then, though. I like my present system so well though, that right now I don't think it even needs upgrading. I run virus software, but it's been a LONG time since it's picked up anything at all, and I very seldom have problems with this machine.
