OK. I found a way to make a wifi/company supplied wireless internet computer to work (maybe).
Go to
Lifehacker for a CNET video showing how to do it for windows or Mac. I'm sure that there must be a way to do it with Linux too.
I'd played with internet sharing (using a router) back in the Windows 98 days and it worked very well. But I simply haven’t thought about it for a very long time.
Now, remember. This post is about using a wifi tablet in an environment where
you would not normally have wifi access. In this case I have a company supplied 3G USB connection and two laptops. One company supplied, and the other one mine. I also saw links on how to use your cell phone to tether to a laptop/netbook but my cell phone isn't capable of that.
So why did I say "(maybe)" before? Well, some companies IT departments (like my company) lock down what you can or can not do with your "company" computer. In my case I also have an extra laptop of my own. I've used it with the 3G USB connector for almost 2 years while working (and for work related matters) with no official notice from the company. This use would be a continuation of that practice.
Suddenly a wifi only tablet looks a lot better.
