I want to try the SD card thing (I already use Ubuntu) but I can't find the image. I'll report back.

Edit: Unbricked using 1.4 SD card image! Will give it some time to charge (in case that had something to do with it) and have another crack at the 1.8 upgrade. If it works I'll explain exactly what I did here.
