Hi. This is a problem that has been reported in the Archos forums. The way to solve it is to install the firmware updates. The latest one was posted only a few days ago. On your Archos 70IT go to Settings>About Device>Firmware update and download the update. Otherwise go to the Archos site here:

I have the same machine and I am running Android 2.2.1 with no problems.

Android 2.2.1 is the operating system. The firmware update is for the Archos generation 8 machines, including the Archos 70IT. I think the latest update is 2.1.04. They are two different things.
