I do that with new books I want these days, but during my brief experiment with eBook piracy, I'd add the book files... and I simply haven't bothered to delete the files themselves... I add a "Replace" tag to the metadata to mark that I need a new copy

I really have stopped buying fiction DTBs, but for non-fiction (such as reference books) or illustration heavy books, paper is still superior to me... though maybe using my iPad for those sorts of things could work too. However, a lot of those books, I leaf around randomly and eBook readers aren't always good with that.
