I'm a brit that has been living in Europe for the last 14 years, I bought my Kindle from Amazon.com (had it shipped to a US address and then forwarded to me so I could get it in time for Christmas).
When I first went to the Amazon store (I had my local address in Europe set), it took me to the international store and some of the books that I wanted were US or UK only.

I have legit addresses in the US and the UK, that I have had goods shipped to. So I tried changing my address in the account settings to the US address and that worked I was able to buy books.

When it first worked, I bought about 6 books, in one go and received an email from Amazon stating that I wasnt in the US. I ignored the email, waited a week and tried again and it worked. So now when I purchase books, I try to follow two rules of thumb, I don't buy more than 6 in one go and I don't buy them all in one go, I spread the purchases out during the day.

So far this has worked and I hope that everyone is happy, I'm paying for the books and I hope the authors are getting their money. I have just the Wifi version so everything is downloaded over wifi obviously and so I don't generate any traffic or fees on the 3G network.
