Hello, I'm new here and it's taken me a good half hour to figure out how to introduce myself. That should tell anyone who's reading this something about my technical know how

. I live in Canada and just started doing research on e-books, in particular Kindle. The one thing that makes it a deal breaker for me is the fact that I don't have the same access to e-books as does everyone south of the border For some strange reason, many of the books I want to read are not available via Kindle in Canada

. It's the same old story, we live just down the road but get treated as if we're on a remote island on Mars
Additionally, I'm bugged that kindle is proprietary and will not work for public library e-books

.
I'm toying with the idea of buying a kindle in the usa and seeing if I can download the e-books from Canada. I mean, how does amazon know if I'm an american with my kindle visiting in Canada, trying to download e-books online? Will my credit card blow my cover?
