At the moment Im having trouble with the Sony Library so been installing/uninstalling etc but have noticed that ADE doesnt recognise my reader when the SL isnt installed. But when I reinstall sudenly I can use ADE to transfer to my reader even though I cant get SL working properly
Also on ADE you have to authorise your computer
Good suggestions, Kiwimick. My understanding is that if you have ADE for PC by itself on your computer then it will not recognize your Sony ereader. You need to install the Sony software, even if you never use it, because the installation provides the drivers that ADE needs to recognize your ereader. It doesn't work the same vice versa. Many people use the Sony software without installing ADE because the necessary account info is integrated into the Sony software.

When you buy DRM'ed books from various ebookstores or download them from your public library, you will download an ACSM file. The ACSM file can be opened with either ADE or Sony software. When you right click on the file, you will see an Open With menu that allows you to select either of these programs. I never use ADE with my books. I always use the Sony software (just my personal preference).

If you open the ACSM file with ADE, then it will download the EPUB book to the Digital Editions folder. If you open the ACSM file with the software, then it will download the EPUB book to the My Books / Reader Library folder. Kiwimick, maybe the Sony software isn't showing as an option for you with ACSM files because you are having issues with the installation of it?
