I agree. I would see how the devices fares when it is professionally reviewed and ships fully, before even thinking about ordering one.
I think the problem here is that the op doesn't want an lcd, but wants the best possible pdf rendering with a large screen. For example, I wouldn't normally recommend the Entourage Edge to general book readers or tablet enthusiasts, but it does make sense for academic purposes.
And the other device, the Adam, solves the lcd screen issue with the Pixel Qi display, and offers a tablet interface that shoud make pdf viewing, annotating, etc. better. However, as jocampo pointed out, quality control is still a big question mark.
It's tough when the criteria are this limiting, but I understand that sometimes we have specific needs.
