I don't think I've done anything different in the settings this time - I'm using a POP3 account, but my ISP told me I needed to change it from SMTP to mail. for incoming and outgoing as I was receiving mail, but could not send before making this change.

The question was aimed at the poster who hijacked this thread. You haven't even posted what the problem is in the first place, apart from "it doesn't work".
And your ISP is right, POP3 is for receiving mail, SMTP is for sending it.
