I had to fire someone for a mistakenly, he claimed, sent email. His rant that pretty much told the client that he knew she was doing something with a roll of duct tape, a tube of KY and a rather surprised sheep, not to mention that the services that our company provided, printing 2 million impressions of a monthly popular computer rag, was too expensive and she should just look somewhere else. Needless to say the client, a nice lady who had nothing whatsoever to do with KY, was displeased. The only way I could manage to keep the account was to fire the employee, I wasn't thrilled but the boss/owner was pretty persuasive.
So the moral of the story, write your rant in your text editor and stew on it for the evening and if it still looks acceptable, they never do, fire it off in the morning.
