If your skin is of the temperament to get a sunburn, then you already know what a tattoo feels like. There are certain body parts where it will hurt considerably more depending on nerve endings and such but in "conventional" places like arms, legs etc., it's a localized burning. You treat it with antibiotic ointment for 2 or 3 days and you forget the pain (unless someone pokes you there before it's done healing!)
The biggest problem anymore with getting inked isn't the pain of the needle but the pain of the pricetag.
