I am a very slow reader, partly because of poor health, which nowadays often makes reading difficult, but I have never been a particularly fast reader. I have always considered myself to be a contemplative reader, though. I spend a lot of time thinking about the words that are used, and the way a book has been written, as much as its subject matter.

I often interrupt my reading, to do some research on some aspect of the subject, or the language used, so that slows my reading of books, as well. Naturally, there are other distractions, as I read a whole host of other things, such as news on-line, downloaded magazines, and so on - not to mention MR!

I am perfectly happy being a slow reader and really would not want to speed read. For me, part of the pleasure of reading is enjoying all the aspects that I have described above.

I always have one e-book plus at least one p-book on the go, at the same time. I often refer to p-books, when reading e-books, and vice versa.

I always read books from beginning to end, but sometimes skim-read sections that I find tedious, or boring, though that's quite unusual.
