It's too early to tell for sure, but ever since I changed ping to setuid, my wifi has never failed to connect automatically on wake. And it's gone to sleep several times as well as been rebooted.
You don't suppose that BN engineers have some sort of wifi checker themselves that relies on ping and when they removed setuid from the program in order to make the Nook more secure with prospective 3rd party apps that they borked their own stuff .....
Anyhoo ... let's give a few days. 5 hours is not enough time to be sure.
