Let's go back 40 years. My library had just started its Classical LP collection. The librarian would call me when new arrivals come in. I got pristine reel-to-reel recordings back then. Lots and lots. Of course, folks will argue that they were not exact copies - nonetheless they provided years of listening and were state-of-the-art. And mp3's are rarely at the highest quality.
What do we make of this. Anything you want.
