I usually have 3 books going at the same time; one thriller/mystery, one science/history, and one philosophy or religion. If I don't care for a book that I've started, I'll skim it quickly for another 20-40 pages to see if I can get interested, but then can it if I still don't like it. I finish the mystery and thrillers in about 3-4 days, the science or history books in about 8-10 days, and the philosophy books will vary between a week to a month depending upon how intense they are.
