Well, one way (one of the things about Calibre is there usually are a number of ways ) is to use the Tag Browser:
Locate in Authors: Patterson, James
Right click: Edit. Make it read James Patterson <Enter> wait

You may need to re-calculate the author sort: so click on James Paterson (Red plus showing)
Select all (tip click on the little box abone the row numbers)
Click the: Edit meta-data button (the white i )
Tick:automatic set Author Sort
Click: OK
