Decloaking...

Hi folks,

I've been lurking on this group for a few weeks, and thought it was time I said hello. I'm a mature student from the north of England (studying the history of science, if you want to know), and after years of reading ebooks intermittently on a Palm, I've decided to splash out and buy an Iliad (planning to order at the end of the week).

Several reasons:

1) I read incessantly, but don't have much room for storing books.

2) Most of the source material I'm using for my dissertation is in the form of seventeenth century books downloaded from the internet. With the Iliad, I can carry them around and scribble all over them without horrifying any archivists :-)

3) I can also use it for taking notes at uni, and with the ported web browser and wifi will be able to check email and download journal articles on campus without lugging my laptop about.

4) I use Mepis 7 linux on my PC, and like the fact that Irex have opened up the device for developers to create software.

5) I like gadgets.

Now, a question for the Linux users on the list; has anyone persuaded the MyScript Notes software to run with Wine? I've had a go with the demo version, and the handwriting teaching software works, but the main software shows the splash screen and then crashes. Alternatively, does anyone know of any Linux software that would do the same job?
