They could make lcd displays with plastic instead of glass, and it makes it much lighter. Furthermore, they can also make the display persistent and sunlight readable - this is old technology. There would probably still be a glare however. But then there is the cost. You get what you pay for =T. If you want a cheap product + color, it's going to be like NC for now.

There are plenty of other things out there, even oled displays and such could be a possibility in the mobile device/tv market once they get improved a bit.
