I live in a small town north of Seattle, Washington and although our county library has a lot of ebooks there were some titles they didn't have. I figured I would take a look at the Seattle library and was shocked to find I could also get a Seattle library card for free (even though I don't live, work or go to school in Seattle). I signed up online and have to pick it up in person at a Seattle library. Just have to bring my present my eligible library card, photo ID and proof of address.
Moral of story. Even though you think you may not be eligible for a card at a library, check and see. Now I'm going to see if I can't get a card at another close-by city.
