I have an iPad, a Kindle and a Kobo! I use them for different things. The iPad I use for email and browsing web and video, the Kobo will read my ePubs and the Kindle is the better quality reading device - although I have to jump through a few hoops to get it to read my existing ebooks (converting to .mobi, emailing to kindle a/c).
I can even read books on my HTC Android phone (which has Kindle app plus Aldiko ePub reader).
I was surprised that I'd get use out of both the Kindle and Kobo, but it has worked out great. And all for under $1000.
My computer is now used for actually doing web design work. Everything else is a pleasant distraction. But all are getting written off as business expenses (I convert many client docs into PDF, ePub. And mobi)
