I got this also, after trying out several others that were not bright enough, and whose batteries had to be replaced at too high a cost. It works very well for me with an even light. The charge lasts a really long time, so only used the base a few times.

It is odd that the charge light is on all the time, but as the charge lasts so long, just unplug it and stick it in a drawer until needed.
