Kobo Software - ipad "settings"

Perhaps no one could/would be as foolish as I, but consider the following a cautionary tale and a warning to ipad/kobo users.

I have 4 or 5 books I had bought from Kobo and am enjoying the experience (although the addition of a Search function would make me very happy). What I did was enter my facebook info to the app (where, I'm not sure) and it started posting things to my very infrequently used facebook page. I wanted that to stop but could not find a way to change it. Here's where I got stupid.

I went to the Settings app in ipad, saw Kobo and an option to clear the local data. "Ah-ha!" my befuddled brain said. "Here is what I had been looking for! This is where you get rid of the awards and statical gathering of reading habit data." It had to be synchronicity that showed me the very thing that I was thinking of, right? No.

I pressed the option and ALL my data was removed. All the books, all the settings, AND all the hi-lights and notes for all the books! It took me several searches across the web and a phone call before I discovered that simply closing the Kobo app and then restarting it would re-sync with the online store and bingo, my books were back. But not my notes. Not my hi-lights. Happily I discussed all the interesting points about Bailey's "Cheever" with my wife, so many facts stayed with me, but the hi-lights are gone. If the app had a search feature, I'm pretty sure I could find those points that struck me as interesting, and would re-hi-light the passages. But it doesn't, so I can't and I'm coming to terms with that.

Long story short, be careful either re-setting an app or removing local data for your device. I usually don't like emoticons, but as I type, I have discovered a perfectly appropriate one, so forgive my use of the hated emoticon this one time.
