If you follow the link to the Adobe site given up-thread, you can find a section called "Troubleshooting your machine". In it they describe how you can try to find out what on your computer reacts badly with ADE.

I think it is a very sad state of the software, that this is still needed more than two years later, but it might be your best chance. The wait for their solution might get long.
