Welcome to MobleRead. I've got 5 sister-in-laws that live in Ireland so we get over there a lot.
I had the same experience as you. I was not reading and was able to start up again when I got my nook. Usually I'm reading several books at once (a nonfiction and a fiction title) and then some reading for work (I'm a writer). With my e-reader I can take them all where ever I go so if I get stuck somewhere I can start reading whatever I feel like reading. I'll be taking my whole library with me to Ireland next summer!
