Yeah. That happens to other people as well.
There isn't any place to set the date from the Kindle itself assuming you've not jailbroken it and gotten a shell. The only option in the menu is time. As you've already worked out, the only way to set it is via the network so either WiFi or 3G. Syncing should fix it.
