Yes! That's the book that jumped to mind for me, as well. AND that scene is the very scene that made it so impressionable. I remember it clearly although I read it in high school, over 40 years ago. I also remembering the movie - looking so forward to seeing it, and when that bedroom scene was played, it just did not do for me what the written passage did. But I do own a copy of the film on DVD, but my copy of the book is lost...
