I suspect people lie as much about how much they read as they do about how much television they watch. People I know report reading all the time although no one ever sees them reading and the same people never ever watch television.

I was invited to a dinner party where I knew the people but not well. As we ate I noticed people quit talking and were eating faster. I asked the woman on my right if something was happening. "Oh, yes, the Sopranos starts in five minutes." I watched astounded as everyone moved into the livingroom to watch the Sopranos. I moved out to the patio and read my book.

And you won't believe this but that television program was not about opera.
