For what purpose? For logging in, whether on the Web or from a NOOK, it's the email address. That's the actual identifier of the account.

For unlocking a NOOKbook, it's the name that shows in the "Unlock Code" on your "My NOOK Library" page.

For someone sending you a PM on B&N's Bookclubs, it's the Bookclubs user name.
