They all do that — retain the font size setting until it's changed. [EDIT: Apparently, except the Sonys! The Kindle certainly does.]

If you're going to be managing the purchase and loading of books, then almost any eReader would do. But for ease of use in buying and loading ebooks, I don't think you can beat the Kindle, since it can all be done from the Kindle itself.
