Thanks for your replies. I love the device even with all its flaws, just wanted to see what others are doing to avoid all these pesky issues.

No in my case it is FBReader. Since posting yesterday I found out, when we are zoomed large, the pan right/left does work. It only doesn't work when the zoom level is such that only a word or so is missed from the right an left.
IOW, I think its something like, when the document is about 25% larger
than the screen.

Thanks anyway. I'll have to find a workaround for this, since most technical books are only in PDF and do require search. I'll try alternative readers.

Beware it havily drains your battery, so switch it off after the transfer. In my phone's file browser I select 'send via bluetooth', select pb302 from the selection list and the transfer starts. However I got the impression that sometimes the phone fails to connect to the PB when I try to send another file some time later. In this case I need to restart the pb302.
I got the impression this is based on obex filetransfer and should work with almost any Bluetooth device.

Ah! So it has nothing to do with connections under the "Settings" option. I was trying to set it up there. I tried what you said but dont' know where the file is going:
* I switched on bluetooth in the reader (using the powerbutton).
* Did get the message that bluetooth was on, and bluetooth symbol displayed.
* I used "bluetooth-sendto" on my linux laptop, to send a txt file and the PB302 showed up in the device list.
* I selected PB302 and chose send.
* The 302, popped up a dialogue box asking for PIN.
* I entered the same pin in the laptop and 302.
* The laptop sent the file.
* The PB then displayed something (too quick for me to read).
Going to books section in the PB now, I was not able to see the txt file. Any idea where bluetooth "sends" go by default?
Regarding the SD card problem, when it happens, the workaround for me seems to be to eject the card and replug it in.
