Yes, I personally had the option to say no and walk out of the door with my Galaxy Tab and no contract. Everything working, including Wifi and 3G capabilities, but I was looking for that 3G access.

Of course you must pay to get 3G access. You want it free, please tell me how?
Look I like the Galaxy Tab, I'm an Android guy. But the contracts are a tough pill to swallow. I think right now people are better off just waiting a bit and see where this goes. The Tablet Wars have just begun. I know you can't keep playing the waiting game because something better always comes along but I think at least for people to hold off until Spring and see what and how this all shakes out is the best advice IMHO.
I mean heck look at what the Vizio one is offering, HDMI out, record and playing HD Video . There is too much buzz right now to jump on a first generation tablet with these Kooky data plans.

but if someone is looking for an ereader that has more capabilities and features than what an eink display can offer, the Nook Color is the best in Show in that category. If all things being equal, meaning it doesn't matter to you reading on either eink or LCD, the Nook color is the best overall choice, IMHO out there.

as to your other question I wasn't referring to 3G but actually my question is if you buy an T Mobile PrePaid contract, can you bypass the pre paid data plan and simply use it as a wi fi only?
