I like the Tab, I really do, I love it's form factor, same as the nook color, love it's response etc. but with Honeycomb right around the corner the next Generation of galaxy tabs will run a software optimized for the tablet, There will be a wi fi only model.
If a tablet is what someone wants, which I think the OP has expressed interest in more of an ereader, but if a tablet is a want right now, I would say wait. The next Generation of Galaxy S Tab's will be sooner rather than later and nothing like having a $600 buyer's remorse staring at you in the face.

The Galaxy is about 250 dollars more than Nook Color, without a contract. Besides that, there is no additional expenses, zero! You can cancel the monthly data plan anytime. Can you explain why that's nuts? Galaxy Tab is about same price than an Ipad, which is also a tablet but not locked like NC.
Do you know the Os difference between Honeycom and Froyo? How many popular apps are right now running on Froyo vs Honeycom? I do have several apps on Froyo that has been already optimized for Galaxy's screen.
I installed Honeycom on my cellphone. Nice, beautiful, until I discovered that some apps were broken or totally out of Android Market. Have you used Honeycom on your device??? If you have, does not look like you know what are you talking about, sorry.
