Honestly? besides the price, the Galaxy Tab is much, much more! and out of the box. I had a Nook Color ... I now have a Galaxy Tab, I've used both products and have zero interested in selling one or the other.
You pay more for a Galaxy but you get a full power tablet with nothing to tweak, root or fix.
Think about this: instead of buying a product that *you think* or *you believe* will receive a firmware upgrade or Os upgrade and fix major software problems or features, check what the product has now and today. Anything else is pure and mere speculation.

you pay ALOT more, especially if you have to get a 2 year contract. You could be looking at paying an extra $400 a Year. that's a Year. that's nuts.
I like the Tab, I really do, I love it's form factor, same as the nook color, love it's response etc. but with Honeycomb right around the corner the next Generation of galaxy tabs will run a software optimized for the tablet, There will be a wi fi only model.
If a tablet is what someone wants, which I think the OP has expressed interest in more of an ereader, but if a tablet is a want right now, I would say wait. The next Generation of Galaxy S Tab's will be sooner rather than later and nothing like having a $600 buyer's remorse staring at you in the face.
