I want an eReader with a 7 inch touch screen. The choices are limited today. It was either the Sony 950 for $299 or the NOOKcolor for $249. I did the eink thing so I knew what I was giving up when I made the purchase. The NOOKcolor is my dedicated eReader. So based on my preferences, it's worth the $250 without being rooted.
Whatever I did on my 4.3 inch phone, I do on the NOOKcolor now. I only use my phone for calls and as a camera/camcorder. I don't carry a laptop around like I used to. I don't have a netbook and never wanted one. The stuff that I would normally do on a laptop when I'm out and about (what a netbook would be used for) I do on the NOOKcolor.
I sync my calendar/tasks/contacts on the device with Microsoft Outlook and Google. I have the NY Times app instead of paying for a subscription. All of my podcasts and other various feeds are on it as well. I use the Instafetch app that syncs with my Instapaper account when I want to read web pages later.
If you don't see the value in the product then you definitely should return it. There's nothing wrong with trying something and deciding that it's not for you.
