I own exactly one .pdb book that I bought from BooksOnBoard. It was the only place I could find that particular book in eBook and it was the only format the offered. Anyway - I loaded it into Calibre with the plug-in to take the DRM off and converted it to Mobi. It displays on my Kindle 3 just fine. You might try installing Calibre and converting some of the books to see what you think before you buy the device.

Really no matter what device you end up with I'd suggest getting those books into some sort of convertible state because pdb seems to be on the way out.
