yeap, im a noob.
well to posting anyway. Been a lurker for a couple of months now.
I have been collecting ebooks for a couple of years now, but never had a Dedicated device ... till my mother in law gets a Kindle and the wife needs one all of a sudden.
I did most of my reading on my old IBM convertible x41t via MS Reader and acrobat. i never thought it was hot, or heavy, until i played with the kindle in person. i finally understood why the wife didn't care for the tablet reading experience. After researching readers for a while, scouring Craigslist for deals, and spending too much on x-mas ... i finally settled on the Kobo wifi for her.
I wanted 2 things - simple device, and ePub support. with a 4gb card, her kobo holds enough books to last her a year. it only reads books. simple, less stuff to break.
I started looking for myself then. Calibre's viewer on screen is ok at work, when i'm waiting for packages to compile or systems to image. But i blew all the "presents" money on x-mas and then her Kobo. Hrmm ...
I was really interested in a Sony touch model ... i have a real tablet, definitely did not want a color reader or "net-tablet" or android ... something i could slip in the backpack for work road trips or vacation. so i stumble on a post on CL - some girl got a reader for school, but can't use it because of a "no calculators" rule. I have an older machine that is rebuilt from parts ... franken-laptop. all the best parts from several used machines, reassembled by mysefl, with a healthy dose of OCD ... probably a better fit than from the factory ... lol.
So now i have a "free-ish" Pandigital Novel Personal ... SiPix touch ... 2 gb internal and my 8gb card should hold all of my books and most of my pix ... now to find a cover ... or make one.
anyway, i'm Mike, and that is the end of today's ramblings.
