Smile Hallo from England and other places

Hi - this is my first post on this forum. I'm already using e-books on an iPod Touch and some Macs, and I'm about to buy a Kindle for a lightweight yet readable device for a long trip I'm making, the iPod form factor being too small and the laptop too heavy and too valuable - and I'm not yet ready to shell out for an iPad. I've already got Kindle stuff from Amazon to read on my existing devices via Kindle Reader software. Amazon sees me as being in the UK. (I'm in France too, but there is no Kindle store on Amazon France, and anyway the prices of e-books in France appear to be astronomical - but I digress).

My first issue with all this stuff is this: since I have an iPod, I have purchased a few books for the Apple iBook app which I couldn't get on Amazon. Now I want to put them on the Kindle for the trip. But so far I don't know if this is possible: I'm aware of Calibre, but I don't know if it's up to the job. Maybe searching the forum will give me the answer.
