Yes, it's DRM related, you cannot open DRMed .azw in Calibre. If you install Kindle for PC and register your PC with amazon using the same account that purchased the .azw, you can download (from amazon server) and read that book on your PC using Kindle for PC. There are ways to remove DRM from that .azw file downloaded to your PC, but for legal concerns, we are not allowed to discuss this, google yourself. Once DRM is removed, the .azw file is nothing but a mobi file that can be opened in Calibre.
