OP: If you feel like you bought a substandard device then return it and buy the device that you want. There is no point in having something that does not do what you want it to do.
If you want to read library books and the Sony is too expensive try the Nook or Kobo. They are the same price as the Kindle, can read EPub, and have Wifi and 3G/WiFi options.
(Leaves the thread to seach for a Holy Hand Grenade, never know when the vampire bunnies might show up)
