I am saying it is the adapter that works. As far as i know, there is nothing special about the cable. The cable I have is a generic cable I purchased off of e-bay a month or so ago. If the tx/rx leads were shorted together or open in the cable then I would not be able to sync my PRS-650 across the cable. The cable works fine for syncing,

I simply hooked the adapter to the PRS-650 and verified, the LED turned red and that the battery indicator in the lower right hand of the screen went solid with the arrow to the right that indicates it is charging. I only left it on ~15-20 seconds as I was on my way to work and wanted to give it a quick test. I purchased the charger to keep at work for my iPhone. I will put it on the charger and top my battery off tonight just to make sure it works for a longer time period. My battery is currenty at about 75% charged, so it should not take long to charge. I will update this thread tommorow with the results.
