Well, I called Sony this evening. Last week I "traded-in" an Augen The Book, a non-functioning, broken-screen ipod 2nd gen. and an old LG phone (that remained unsold on ebay for $5) and received via email instant coupons for $50, $30 and $50 respectively. I've since used the two $50 coupons to purchase my daughter a PRS-350 (on sale on their site for $179) and an mp3 player for my son to replace the defunct ipod. I'm not sure what I'll use the $30 coupon for. Both new devices were shipped last night per the sony site, so I haven't received them yet. I mailed out the recycling devices yesterday.
Then on another thread here on mobileread I learned that BestBuy and Borders have this same reader for $149. So I called Sony to see if they'd honor this price, plus let me use the coupon. At first they wouldn't budge and said something about the coupon no longer being useful since I had already used it, that it has an expiration date that had gone by (it hadn't, since I had until the 16th to mail the old devices in). I suggested that this penalizes me since I could have just used the coupon on something else and bought the reader for $30 less than the sony site, and that this made my $50 coupon worth $20. Hold again. Then they came back and said that since the reader was already on sale on the sony site ($10 off), that they couldn't honor another sellers sale price. I pointed out that this was my 5th reader purchase, that I could have purchased a $139 kindle instead, or could even return the device I haven't received yet and buy something else, but they wouldn't budge. They did offer me a $10 refund on my order, however, so I guess I'm not disappointed. But it would have been nice for them to honor BestBuy's price and honor the coupon.

So, if you want to use your coupon, call and get them to match any competetors price FIRST, then add your coupon into the deal.
