I do expect epaper devices to have an edge in terms of readability, power usage, size and weight for many years, and don't expect Pixel Qi to produce the optimal solution. Even if they do manage to ship it in a product.
And remember that there are two sides to an equation. You have to give the readers what they need to give up their ereaders. But (keeping in mind that heavy readers are maybe 10% of the population), you also can't burden the device with characteristics that will annoy non-readers: i.e., the screen needs to be as good as an LCD, and the weight, battery power, and cost need to be on par with other tablets.
