I checked off "mystery, general, and other." I read mostly mysteries. (I used to belong to the Mystery Guild.) When I'm looking for books, I search first mystery and then general. I picked "other" because I don't know whether time travel romances or books like
"Sleeping with Schubert" fit into general or something else.
I can't think of a single sci-fi book that I have ever read -- as I'm thinking sci-fi is mostly space opera type stuff -- although I am intrigued by the praise that Baen gets and want to read something from there just because of that. I read one really
dismal fantasy trilogy that has scared me off from the genre. Considering that I favor "magical girl" anime -- and I am not fan of giant robots in space -- I think that fantasy may be a good genre for me, if I knew how to filter what's out there.
I have always considered "vampires" to be horror; haven't ever thought of them as ... fantasy? In my mind, I've branched off "paranormal" from "horror" because there are so many relatively benign characters lately. Maybe that is why I have such a hard time with genres -- my ideas don't line up with common sorting!
