For getting library books, it isn't just a matter of getting epub files, as mentioned in a thread above. You have to install and use Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) on a PC, as mentioned in the link above, in the section concerning library books.

This can be confusing at first, because you first download a little file from the library, open it with ADE, and then ADE does the download of the actual book. After the download, the book will be in the ADE organizer, but you must then connect your Nook and then within the ADE organizer drag and drop the book onto the Nook to get it to transfer from the PC to the Nook. It takes some effort till you get the hang of it.
