When I called the 800 number, after about 10 minutes of up and down and back and forth, the guy on the phone said he couldn't pull up the first order number I gave him and would turn it over to his supervisor and someone would get back to me. I told him that in that case I was going to give him ALL of the order numbers. He put me on hold and came back and said yes, these were supposed to be free and they would reverse everything. Now I'm waiting to a) see if they actually get around to it, and b) restore the money to my gift card balance rather than trying to do something slow like sending me a check or something dumb like trying to "restore" it to my credit card, which was not charged.

This kind of thing (which is not the only problem this household has had with B&N in the last two months) shows that despite their Nook triumphs, their real problem is the mess their online order system is in. Until they fix that, they're just going to be a great big third-world book dealer, and no real competition for Amazon. Still happy with my Nook though.
Hi, Ken. I would be angry and frustrated if that happened too. You might want to pop into this thread link on the B&N forum where other people are also venting on the same issue. B&N seems to have had a major meltdown in their system over the holidays. Some people like you are being retroactively charged for free books. Others have had the opposite problem of not being charged for purchases. Some have had their credit cards declined. Hopefully B&N resolves their issues soon.
