That's probably true for the majority of e-readers, however devices like the iPad and kindle are beginning to change that. I read technical books now exclusively on the iPad (its cheaper to get e-copies and it saves on paper and storage space) the colour display resolution is adequate for technical diagrams and the size of the display is large enough for peripheral-sight scanning context to not feel cramped. If apple were to use the iPhone 4 display technology on an iPad size device, its resolution would exceed most dual monitor desktop setups available today. (plenty of room to display and read technical information with fidelity). Its not here today but its coming, and not just from Apple.
